That's because most of it IS awful.
It was a pretty cool place to be back in the 60's. Now, not so much.

The population in the state is more or less remaining the same and growing slowly with the tide turn due to those that want less government are leaving the state and being replaced by those dependent on the government.
The same is happening here in Seattle.
Just read a bit about where other states are busing their homeless to Seattle and California and that even California is busing them here.
