These steps are minimally intrusive to the aging remote.

Removing the power source and replacing batteries can help with some electronics problems in general. Anything past opening the battery compartment can be risky for this remote.

There might be some way to bring up a diagnostic screen but I don't know how. Try different searches on wifi and mac addresses in the forum, maybe something will pop up.

You could use a ir repeater if you need to send a ir signal to another room.
