Maybe it's too simplistic for some requirements, but I just have the device on/off commands on each respective device's power on/off button by themselves, and on the main menu power off button I use a macro that turns all devices off.
Best practice would be to put power on and off on a hidden page within each device. Create your power on and off macro on the main menu and then use punch through to assign the power macros to all devices (make sure to include a jump to main in the macro). You should not have to press main and then power off to shut the system off. With a projector, a lot of guys like to create a jump on the power off button to a "Power Off Page" where you have to then confirm you want to power off.
