You mentioned Chinese clients, then provided the non-PC syntax to match. In my case, the clients were Persian and had a totally different thing going on. You should have heard the story she told when she introduced herself to the guys at the guard house, all of whom were black. This is her name:
Negar: "Negâr is a feminine given name of Persian origin meaning "sweetheart, idol or beloved."
That's carefully pronounced "nay-gar" while staring the security guy right in the eye.
