I go to only a couple of grocery stores and if I need to go to one for the first time, I usually pay cash. I do that in most places for the first time if it's likely to be the only time. I use the self-checkout at the grocery and I try to limit the number of others who see my card. I looked into switching to Spectrum from ATT (because I'm tired of ATT's crap) and the agent wanted my SS number- that's the one number I really try to avoid giving out. The last time I got a replacement cars was a couple of years ago and I didn't request it, the credit union sent it out with a letter to explain that someone else was hacked and they wanted to avoid problems.
