Ernie, I think the piece you are missing is it's not a "splice" per se and with both improvements in the transceiver devices (HDbaseT isn't really a Balun, just uses the same cabling), and the in progress evolution to packet switched devices, most manufacturers recommendations have changed. They used to recommend only having terminations right at the devices. Crestron, as an example, even offers the patch panels, patch cables, etc. now. Treat it like network cabling, i.e. a quality RJ jack/Patch Panel/Patch Cable and you are fine with most newer HDbaseT devices, just can't go quite as far. My bigger concern would be the lack of shielding with HDbaseT if it is regular CAT6, which would lead me towards something streamed/packet switched, i.e. NVX, Just Add Power, SVSi, or any of the numerous others that have come on the market lately. At that point it is Ethernet, so just treat it like Ethernet and follow the same rules.
