Everything in the streaming category has a 2-3year lifespan best case scenario. If your spending a lot of money on a disc player. dont do it "because it has apps"
nothing is immune apps might be cool or useful but the future is in no ones control. It is not really in manufacturers interest to create updated firmware for old devices and streaming (internet) services constantly need to update their offerings to deal with new realities.
