What it looks like is the Denon only passes component video color, chroma subsampled 4:2:0.
RGB 4:4:4 would take up more bandwidth and the EDID from the AVR is telling the source that it doesn't pass.
What happens if he opens the AVR's menu and looks at the video info menu? It's pretty comprehensive.
