The DH500 was a budget receiver that didn't do upconversion.
So, like others said, if you want to use a component in, the signal goes out the component out. Alternatively, just pass the component straight to the TV and send the audio to the receiver.
If you can't easily get component to the TV you can use a component->HDMI converter as a last resort.
