Looks like one of those transitional aged AVRs when HDMI was just coming out. Has HDMI switching but no upconversion. Dead giveaway is usually when you see “Dolby Digital Plus” as opposed to Dolby HD. Recommend either replacing the AVR with newer model, running component cables to the TV although I doubt your VHS combo will output VCR through Component, or get a Sony RDRVX555 (535). It has an HDMI output that outputs both VCR and DVD. Easier said than done on that one
