Went and looked at a project today that I have no answers for.
Existing theater, 3-4 years old. Marantz AV8801 preamp, Panasonic projector (that is dying), Directv box, Amazon fire, Samsung Bluray.
Client wants to replace projector with a JVC 4k unit and utilize 4k content (directv, Appletv, etc).
Problems: Preamp is not HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI cable from rack to projector is 4 year old monoprice cable, no idea on capability. No cat 6 from rack to projector (rules out HDMI extenders). 1st floor of a 2 story home, ceiling finish (textured, faux, flat paint) cannot be color matched. Client is not stoked on cutting up the ceiling or replacing his $4,000 preamp.
Do any of the HDCP "Fixers" work worth a crap? In all my years in the industry I have managed to avoid using them somehow. Would they be an applicable solution in this situation?
How would you guys handle this? I suspect I am going to be seeing a lot more of this stuff in the future.
