Omigod, who would have imagined that would cause a problem!? I sympathize, especially since there's nothing you can do about that color! I'd hate to have to block off a window because of the color of my neighbor's roof!
I'm not at all a painter, so this is an ignorant question. If you have truly covered the primer, say, with two applications of paint, why would the color of the primer matter? I suppose this is a basic painting question. It seems to me that if the top coat is thin, then the primer would matter, but otherwise not.
These people are wealthy and wealthy people like art, architecture, design, etc. Doesn't mean they give a rat's butt about construction and that's where the problem lies. Wealthy people who have built or remodeled understand this, but not the ones who choose it as "something to be interested in".
Unless I'm painting a room that receives no light from outside, I think I'm done painting at night.
Red is one of the hardest colors to cover without being visible through a lighter shade and I was using a color that's a bit lighter than modelling clay. The color of the lights being used to see at night matter a lot, too. I really like the color of halogen lights, but not the heat generated by them. CFL, incandescent and LED are harder to get that color, but I found LED bulbs for my friend's boat that are called 'Daylight' and they really are neutral, so that's a plus WRT preventing paint colors looking different at various times of the day.
I used to be a bit stingy with paint, but after seeing how badly it covers, I gave that up.
