Again, you don't HAVE to setup ddns or HIK-Connect. You just have to setup port forwarding and then use the WAN IP in the app. Obviously this is not recommended as the WAN IP can change at any time. But it works and I prefer to set it up first using the WAN IP to test, then add DDNS settings.
