So look for a 10 year old laptop with a serial connection?
Keyspan
Doesn't need to be 10 years old, but I got lucky- my client runs a company that designs and installs displays, like the ones in car dealers, malls and other places- the ones where this computer were for HTC phones and when HTV called to tell him they were done with that ad campaign, he had a ton of good equipment to do with as he pleased.
The one I'm using is from dfi Technologies and the model is M110/515
I think that as long as the computer is healthy, it's a good bet- this works so well that I won't even bother with the adapter anymore. It wasted so much time I don't want to look at it and the last time I used this computer to program a remote, it was the same MX850 that gave me fits in 2013-2015. He moved and added/deleted some equipment, so I got the job of reprogramming and it took a fraction of the time, I didn't need to assign a USB port and life was good.
