Just maybe if both windows picked up the IR signal yet a small time apart, the equipment it is repeating it to would ignore the signal. Seeing it as noise.

I've witnessed this with doors open on a cabinet.

Stuff won't work
Close the door and all is good.

My quickest service call was an open cabinet when using an IR system. I could see it over the clients shoulder as he opened the door. Cheap bastard called the office right after I left to cancel the service call.

So yeah, a direct shot of IR and a reflection could easily create havoc.
When good enough is not good enough.
