Buzz, whilst that can't be ruled out, what I think that it comes down to, is the term 'perceived value'.
A lot of people simply think that a projector costs around a thousand dollars (we, off course, know how much they usually cost).
It's simply helping lift that 'perceived value' to a more realistic figure, the smart/good clients 'get it' and the others, well, they're harder work!
