For me, I prefer (both as an employee or an owner) to have a face to face about these types of situations. At minimum, a phone conversation. Should always start with getting feedback from the employer about how they feel about your performance and job responsibilities. Its best to know who THEY feel so you can decide which path you want to further take to get to your end point.
