I added an Echo Dot to my URC system at home.  It works great so long as the dog isn't barking or other people aren't speaking in the room.  I like to use it to turn off the downstairs AV and lights as I'm walking up to bed.

It would be nice if it could hear me over the dog barking.  I'd like to use it to bring up the cameras on the TV when I hear him barking, but usually it can't distinguish my voice from his barking.

maybe i can program his barking into the system as a command.  :)
