If they have music saved on the phone, just install a router and connect the AVR- the fact that it's not connected to the internet only matters if they want to stream content from the internet- the phone will stream to it via WiFi. I would recommend installing the MusicCast app on the phone for this.
Is this a remote location or a matter of how the house was built?
