I remember you asking about other carriers that will work in SW CT. I believe you're on VZW. My point is the fact that my g/f's sister took her off of my VZW. She still has the same phone number that she has had for the last 5 plus years. Since she's jumped ship to Sprint, she has been receiving multiple calls a day from spam. She doesn't answer them, unless she knows the number, and of course they don't leave a message.

My only thought is because people have reported to VZW of spam phone numbers. And they just block those numbers on the backend.

7762 is VZW spam reporting line. I know this works with texting, but not sure about calling numbers though.
