I have the same problem. The number has raised substantially as of late. I had fun with one of them that kept calling by answering, "Redmond police department." The idiot caller went on with her script until I said, "Mam, this is the police department." She apologized and hung up :).

It is very easy to block numbers in Android and you just do it in the phone app. Alas, they use many numbers so other than a few companies that keep using the same number, it is not very effective. And yes the Verizon method is a joke.
