Don't disparage a guy trying to use what we'd consider an antique unless you're willing to disparage him and then, at no cost, replace his antique. Old stuff is still usable. Recognize the abilities and the limitations and move on!
A client has a Denon of similar vintage. When we added the Roku4, I ran the HDMI output through an audio extractor, then used the pull string I installed through the smurf tube in the chimney space back in 2002 and ran the HDMI line into the TV.
Yes, it's primitive. Yes, the audio is ProLogic because there's only two channels of audio coming out of the audio extractor. And... without buying a new receiver, this lady's bedroom system now has Roku.
