Multiple negatives in a sentence are kind of hard to follow, even when you're the one writing them. Let's take out a pair of negatives. It looks like you're saying "Certain things are optimally implemented by making money, and serious news reporting is one of them."
I think you only meant one of those negatives.
And as a matter of fact, is money has been made, news reporting can definitely be optimally implemented... but serious news reporting won't make money. I think that's what you were trying to say.
It could make money, if that's what people wanted, but thanks to Robin Leach and 'Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous', sensationalism and escapism rule. So many people want to look into the lives of others and they completely neglect their own. By the time they look up, it's time to die and they still have the same problems that existed years before, they still haven't improved themselves, still haven't said what they needed to/should have, etc.
Hard news bores people, much like training videos make our eyes glaze.
