Insurance is pretty much socialism. Sometimes you'll be paying for others, sometimes others will be paying for you.
Insurance is gambling, with the added screw that it also pays for others. We're betting that we'll have an insurable event and they're betting that we won't, but the odds were worked out long ago and they're still fine-tuning.
