I had it on my personal laptop after I parted ways with my last employer, and it allowed me to carry on since they don't have activation keys or anything like that. Since then, I've helped a programmer who lives hours away with maintenance on systems that are local to me, for those odd times when he needs on-site support. Quid pro quo.
I suspect that most people aren't trying too hard to get Crestron software these days, since it's a real pain in the ass to learn on your own (and the switch to smart graphics didn't help). I've seen about a half dozen people who have entered the industry in the last 3-5 years start with Savant or C4, think they're a 'programmer', try Crestron and quickly say, "I think I'm going to focus on programming lighting systems instead."
