You didn't mention the model number of your O!Play, but so far as we know, they all use the same codes.

The OARUSB04G will operate the O!Play using setup code Cable 2987.
If it should turn out that your model uses different codes, then this remote will learn from your friend's OEM remote.

It appears that the O!Play units only respond to IR signals, so a smart phone which lacks a blaster isn't going to work.
