Before you ditch the receiver, swap inputs to attempt to determine if the problem comes from the DVR; happens with any HDMI signal on the input you're now using for the DVR; disappears when particular things are plugged into particular inputs; or whatever combo of source/input you can come up with.

Connecting the DVR to other inputs seems to be a most basic troubleshooting step. It gives you the most possible information without changing any components.
