But if I need to pay a guy hundreds of dollars to come out and reprogram my remote for every $100 device I replace or add, then it's not worth it.
Since my entire entertainment system DIY, I don't think any professional would ever come to simply add a remote control system.
I would come out and I do this, but only for those customers who want to work as a partnership. I'll do the heavy work and give them a framework. As long as they follow a few rules, they can add buttons and tweak screens daily if they like. I can't work with someone who resents my being there and is constantly telling me how much more he knows about every little detail than I do. Of course, there will always be the cheapskates, they are on their own as far as I am concerned, but I find that it is mostly about control. The DIY wants to feel that he (it's always "he") are in control. As their consultant, I can give them that control.
