That's true, an old wireless router could be recycled. I don't need much range for the core function (currently the MRX-8 will really be just an IR repeater, but with headroom for future upgrades). I could provide an interesting whole house function (that they are not aware of) simply by adding a device to the TRC-1080 -- if its operating range is good enough. The condo is dense, old world construction, multiple access points cover the space nicely, hence my thought of getting the MRX-8 on the network.

By the way, is the TRC-1080's "pickup" function tied to removal from the charging cradle or is there an inertial sensor?
