I have to disagree with you on a couple of points.

Yes, but along the way, the technology that makes watch-winding possible did not become obsolete or even forbidden (1080p on component, for instance).

Some of it could be an issue of market saturation, in that there are only so many wealthy folks out there who are into movies, and they finally had enough of them that there wasn't a lot of growth available to them there.

When, in 1970, I told my girlfriend that I was starting work in a hi-fi shop, she said, "how can you guys stay in business? Doesn't everybody already have a record player?" She didn't have one and had never gone into a record store before she met me, but still....
