That's very likely but what shocked/annoyed me is that someone who speaks Spanish natively does not know that cinco = five and mayo = May...I'm the whitest guy around who speaks no foreign languages; even I understand when Cinco de Mayo is !
agree it does sound dumb but sometimes it can be a matter of interpretation.
Her: When is Cinco de Mayo? (she was 100% serious)
might mean "what date" does it fall on, but it also might mean "what day of the week" does it fall on (i.e. mon, tue...). Since that could play a big role in the different plans, especially if it is not a statutory holiday.
