It's been 10 years! So I hope he solved it by now. In the current decade, you can use IRScrutinizer to do it since it made MakeHex obsolete several years ago. And XBMC doesn't even exist anymore.
The Xbox remote uses MCE protocol, not "RCA5". He probably meant "RC5" (of which MCE is the correct variant he should have used). So that was the cause of his original problem, using the entirely wrong protocol.
MCE codes are built in to most remotes, so there's no need to resort to pronto hex at all.
