I have done a lot of learning, however, it is only as good as the remote you have. the problem is, I want to control my Xbox One and there is no remote with the discrete on/off.
Absolutely not true. The XBOX button on the IR / media remote will wake it up (on) and a press & hold of that same button will bring up the menu to turn the console off. You just have to navigate up once (to turn console off) with the D-pad and hit enter. You could easily write a macro for off in just a couple steps.
My XBOX One is IR controlled and I have been doing this since day one. The command for that button just has to be set to repeat.
That is why I put a dedicated power off button on the XBOX One page.
