Okay, went through and tested all the codes available. 4 codes seem viable: 655, 831, 871, 1436. These were the only ones that brought up the onscreen menu when you pressed the MENU button
1436 seems to exercise the most functions on the receiver with the least amount of effort having to learn buttons.
Hope this helps other R40 owners.
