I'm actually not sure where this statistic came from. I was watching the news (in Australia) and at the end of the story on a recent shooting they commented that it was the 294th mass shooting in the united states so far this year.
You seem to be the only one having an issue with the figure. Having said that, how many Americans killed by guns are you content to live with in order to make sure that you maintain the "god given constitutional right" to buy a machine gun at will. If the answer 13,000 a year, then well done. In 2014 just under that figure were killed by guns.
Here's a few interesting statistics for 2014.
Total Number of shootings 51,742
Officer Involved Shooting 3,213
Non Officer involved shootings 48,529
Number of actual Deaths 12,563 ok but maybe they were all bad
Accidental Shooting Deaths 1,598
Number of Children (age 0-11) killed 1,628
Number of Teens (age 12-17) killed 2,373
Mass Shooting killed 284
Using your logic we should ban cars because
bad drivers killed 33,800 innocent peoples in 2009. The whole anti-gun argument is based on emotion.
Take
Chicago for example... some of the strictest gun control in the USA yet one of the murder centers of the USA.
