Really depends on the control system involved when using DMX.

For control4, I use this guy, which is a rs232 to DmX control box. The control system fires off the light scenes (rs232), then the box does all the heavy lifting of commanding the light loads.

You can use any light strips, pro lights, etc. that are dmx capable.

Then you need dmx controlled light drivers like these.
