It won't work. My 2014 Macbook Pro and 2015 Macbook Pro will not pass a signal through the front or rear ports of my Denon AVR to the TV. The Macbook is a HDMI relay which is Source > Sink. The computer doesn't allow it to be connected to anything other than the display.
It's a pain but that's the way it works.
Must be a Denon thing. My Mac Mini allows me to plug into my Pioneer VSX-53 and display on the TV just fine. A little adjustment maybe needed. This is through the HDMI output on the Mac Mini. though I THINK that I used the MiniDisplay port at one time.
