Is the front port of the Denon flush with the surface? Or is 1/4" under? So much so that perhaps the hdmi isn't really plugged in. But rather held in place by the jacket of the cable.

Does it work if you plug the hdmi cable into the rear of the Denon?

Besides, if she does FaceTime on the large tv. The camera on the MBP will still have to face her. So to the other person, she won't be looking at the MBP but the big screen instead.
