Does it even have an ir receiver? I know that with my nexus player, the remote is Bluetooth only and I can pair my Logitech harmony but it is basically just pairing as a keyboard and works ok for navigating, but not for games played with the remote as the buttons get mapped slightly differently (the center 'OK' button is enter on keyboard but when in games it sends 'button 1' or 'a'). You can probably get the same functionality over bluetooth with the shield tv, but I've been going after IP control. There is an android TV remote available on the play store that works as you'd expect from a mobile remote app, (directional buttons, home, menu, back, select), and it even has a mic button to send voice commands. Google has posted the api documentation (here) to connect as android tv remote, and RTI has just approved me to get the SDK, so now all I need is a nice long weekend to sniff out the traffic from the official remote app and use it to create a set of IP commands...
