Yes, I have made sure that I've got the polarity correct.

I was able to take the back plate off and measured the resistance of the pull-up resistor that would be in series with the IR out. It measured in at 600M ohms, while the number on it said it was a 100 ohm resistor. Could this be what is causing my problems? What could have caused that resistor to go bad?
