An issue raised from the past.

I have several MX-850s and recently got an MX-700 that I updated to my current configuration. Now I can't get any of these to connect any of these to my MX-850 Editor. The error is 102-57UU-0000 which says that either the com port is incorrect ot the cable is defective.. I have tried every com port, setting the Editor and port to the same one. I have tried three different computers, different USB to serial adapters, different USB cables when they can be detached from the adapter and nothing helps.

So I'm down to the serial cable that came with the device. Is this a standard kind of cable? I have found items listed as DB9 Female to 3.5mm Serial Cable. Should this work so I can test the last link in the chain? I don't know what else to try.

I have never had a simple cable fail but I suppose it's possible. It is pretty old (8 years) but has seen littler use.
