You need to use a TAA compliant USB to SERIAL adapter. (All three USB ports on most models are RS-232 capable.)

The caveat is that the unit will NOT respond to USB/SERIAL commands when the unit is off. So always best to deal with that issue accordingly. If you are using a two-way control system testing it for on status will work when the unit is off (it doesn't know it's off it only knows it's not on).
