Ordinarily if the remote makes double (or more typically 4) flashes, it means the battery voltage is too low.  Try fresh batteries.  If that doesn't fix it, post back with a more detailed description of the symptoms.  The way you've described it above, the remote is constantly flashing the cable LED.  I suspect that isn't the actual situation.
