Oddly enough, I don't see any reference to discrete power issues with this model. So, two random thoughts.
1) Are you running the latest firmware? There was an update released in 2009 (2.06r) that's on Sony's site. It doesn't mention this specific issue, but it wouldn't hurt to check.
2) Is HDMI CEC disabled? It technically shouldn't affect this issue, but it does relate to power control, and can sometimes be flaky.
Oh, and I have a Sony 13" TV built in 1986 that responds to modern Power On, Power Off, Tuner, and Video 1 discrete codes. :-)
