So was the other box set to 720P as well? Why do they recommend 720P? For only DTV boxes or for all inputs? What does film like mean? Smoother panning and a soft image? Did you use an HR44 (indicated that was one of the boxes) and a different box? A Client? Because the image of the client boxes looks terrible!
