I take it you mean you set the COM Port to 1, not that you set the latency to 1 (which is what you actually said) (and which I'd understand even less).

As Mario has seen, sometimes a computer seems to tie a device to a particular USB port. I've seen the software for the MX850 TOTALLY tweaky, not allowing disconnection of the cable during programming and test, and sometimes requiring a reboot of the computer to reestablish communication.
And the Keyspan USB to Serial adaptor has for years been recommended as the only one that works for everything. It is THE ONE to have.
