It appears now that it might work. However...

The exact procedure requires that the unit power up and NO DISC reads on the florescent display. Press Play and Skip Forward simultaneously. "Initializing" shows on the display. "Initialized" and then "No Disc" will display when it's done.

I took one of them from the client's house yesterday. I just got it out of the van. Weather is in the mid 90s outside so the unit is WARM but what the heck.

Plugged it in; alternate red and green blinked, ending in red blinking. Unplugged it, noticed that red blinked for a good twenty seconds with no power. Looks like it's got a beefy capacitor in the supply!

Plugging it back in again, red and green alternated, ending with solid green, model number, and NO DISC display.

Lowhz's procedure did absolutely nothing, which makes me ask again, but slightly differently:

Lowhz, what is the goal of the procedure you listed? And for what model(s)?

Look at it this way: The unit is already bricked. Trying the init procedure for post mcom or PCB replacement won't hurt it.

But if I should not expect the procedure to work, I should know that so that I don't think something is wrong if it does nothing.

Edit: Just called Denon.

The tech I spoke with is wise. He didn't say this happens all the time and he didn't say he's never heard of it, but he didn't say he's ever heard of it, either. Since it now looks like it's ready to play, I'll try it out and see what happens.

He thinks that it went into protection. Who knows? Maybe the new condos in downtown Pasadena have crap power; I've seen that in the business section of Beverly Hills, where two brownouts a day is normal.

The Denon tech also thinks that if it's working at my place, then the client's restart procedure should be to unplug it for 24 hours, then plug it in somewhere else... little help for my client who must use a walker. Maybe we can get him a little wagon for dragging the thing around... that shows how ridiculous this is. If that doesn't show it, how about the fact that he'll only find it not working at the exact moment when he wants to watch a Blu-ray?

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
