if the remote was programmed with the old stand alone editor, that may be the only way to retrieve a file off the remote. it is not preferable, just necessary in some cases.
i don't think that URC has the stand alone editor in the dealer section of the website anymore. you will probably have to call tech support to get your hands on a copy of it.
