first off this post has nothing to do with a/v or buisness in general, more general life. Think of this as more a philosophy class or introspective review of ones self... because the reality is. i am not what i thought i was and most likely you are not either.

feel free to share your thoughts and your own story. this is my story...

So today i am having a personal phone call with an A/V industry buddy(he will stay nameless but a few of you will only need 1 guess to figure it out). Now our friendship started when we were competitors in chicago, and 10 years later and 1300 miles later we are still buds. You could say we have been through hell and back with each other, so its a tight friendship. and he knows me better than i know myself(50000ft view)

as some of you may or may not know i am involved in a start-up manufacturing business in the robotics(sorta kinda) world. details are unimportant and i am not ready to share detais yet. but needless to say building the executive team is one of my many resposibilities.

now my buddy will be moving south to tampa to be my sales director in a few short weeks. this became official a couple days ago. yesterday my buddy got introduced via conference call to ownership, BofD, and myself.

typicall 2 hour blah blah blah fest... everything is good and great.

Today during my personal call(talking about conspiracy crap) he says out of the blue... "i understand" i said what?, he said " i understand" i'm torn because there is zero context so i say WTF are you talking about...

he says, i get it now, you build the dreams for people who dream, but cannot make a dream come true.

now this has me pissed off, because i always thought i was the guy with the dream and the uncanny ability to make the dream come to fruition... after about 10 minutes of delicate explaining by my buddy he leads me to the place i never knew...

I am the builder of dreams, not the dreamer. while my buddy is absolutely right, now that i have thought about this for a couple hours, i still dont know how to feel or how i should feel...

it goes deeper than building businesses and into my personal life... i build dreams.

now i am building my 5th business from the ground up, i am responsible for building the dream of someone else...
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...
