You cannot program the new ones to operate other equipment. IIRC, you can program TV power, input, and volume commands, and AVR volume commands. No AV1 or AV2 capability. Not that we should be concerned, but no control over bluray players, vcrs, etc. And the rocker style volume controls are silly.

We asked the DirecTV installer for the older style remotes because this client wanted to use them like he did in his previous house. He said sure and got a bunch from the van and left before we found out they did not work via RF. Of course, he probably did not know this either.
